· 26/11/2008 / HARVESTING PERIOD FOR THE ELABORATION OF NATURAL SWEET WINES IN BSI-BODEGAS SAN ISIDRO
As every year during the last week of November, BSI- Bodegas San Isidro makes the harvesting of the grapes for the elaboration of sweet wines. These grapes are left to get dry on the vine, until they become raisins. They are very old vines, with a low production. Then, they are carefully harvested and taken to the winery, where they make a selection by hand and a special treatment, where fermentation is stopped with cold temperature, and not with the addition of alcohol, so all the residual sugar comes directly from the grapes themselves. This is what differences natural sweet wines from BSI (Lácrima Christi y Gémina Dulce Monastrell) from other Monastrell sweet wines, and this is what makes them unique.
· 10/11/2008 / LÁCRIMA CHRISTI RETURN
The most famous traditional sweet wine from Jumilla and from BSI-Bodegas San Isidro appears into the market again, and this time with the first name it had: “Lácrima Christi”, which had been changed for “Lácrima Viña Cristina” in the last years. It also takes a new image and presentation, very elegant and sober. It has been perfectly accepted in the Spanish and export markets. It is elaborated with raisined Monastrell grapes, and it brings together all the character of this land and this winery, which is the biggest producer and best expert in Monastrell. Lácrima Christi has red tile tones. In the nose, you can feel the long period in oak the wine has (around ten years), with toasted tones. In the mouth, there appear the typical sweet touches, that make this wine the perfect companion for snacks and desserts.
· 23/10/2008 / 2008 HARVESTING PERIOD FINISHES IN BSI- BODEGAS SAN ISIDRO
The 2008 harvesting period finishes today in BSI-Bodegas San Isidro. Since the very beginning, all the process has been controlled by the technical experts of BSI, which personally assessed and informed every winegrower- shareholder. Harvesting time started on 8th September, in normal conditions and with a nice weather. The first varieties harvested were the earliest ones: Tempranillo, Syrah or Petit Verdot. Afterwards, they started harvesting Monastrell. October rains didn’t affect the process and the qualities. This year, grapes are very healthy and with high degrees. This is a fact that the BSI’s Technical Department evaluates as very good. They calculate that the general quality o this harvesting period will be: excellent- optimum, maybe one of the best in the last years.
